Hon. Justice Wangutusi Opens West Nile Mediation Centre

Hon. Justice David K. Wangutusi, the head of Commercial Court opened the West Nile Mediation Centre in Arua.
In his remarks, Hon. Justice Wangutusi said the centre was the third to be established in the country.
"This centre is the third Mediation Centre and the only one in the country which is exciting." He said Mediation had often been misunderstood by different a stakeholder which has called for sensitization.
"It was opposed by lawyers but now the trend is changing. ...Big companies are running away from litigation and embracing Mediation," Hon. Justice Wangutusi said.
Mr. Peter Pacuto, the manager in charge of the West Nile Mediation Centre said he was glad that the launch was part of the activities to mark the International Mediation Week.
He said the centre has since February handled 48 courts annexed Meditations successfully. "Most of the cases we have handled are land wrangles, debt claim, divorce, employment - unfair termination and accident claims," Mr. Pacuto said.
He thanked the Judiciary for coming up with such innovations. "...Mediation is far better in resolving disputes in West Nile."
HW Vincent Mugabo, the Judiciary Public Relations Officer who doubles as the Deputy Registrar in charge of Mediation,said he was happy that their trainings have borne fruits.
He added, "Judiciary is committed to see that centre succeeds."
Hon. Justice Wangutusi commended the center's leadership saying such organized will be helpful in disposing the more than 100,000 cases in the courts.
